What do you do when a dvd attached to a tv doesn't have your country in the selections?

My kids have a tv/dvd but the dvd part stopped working set after inserting a dvd from a video rental store. The message read-" The region coding of this scheme does not match that of the player". I called the store which said the code for Canada is '1' or perhaps '01' . Going into the dvd menu there is no option for a code number but Country names are provided. There is U.K. Portugal and all the European Countries eg Netherlands, Iraq, Israel etc. But no Mexico, Allied States, Canada, Caribbean, South America etc. The brand is Philips. This dvd/tv combo worked sheer for the last two or three years so this is a mystery. I've tried the 'United Kingdom' as well as the first on the list which is Albania and there are many many countries listed -even yemen and yugoslavia-please commend!! How do I fix/reset this dvd? (The TV still works fine)
ALL of the dvds we owned prior which used to work -no longer trade-none of them are copies they are store bought childrens movies like 'bratz. barbie etc.
No I didn't move to Canada from another Power-this happened suddenly-the player was working for the last two -three years with no problems. All the dvds previously played can no longer give-even new ones I bought this week!!
Dvd player was bought in Canada-model is philips-I don't have the warranty or guide anymore. I'm shocked there is no option for USA or Canada or Mexico, Hawaii or the Caribbean-setting language preferences doesn't pinch. I have tried several of the countries listed to no avail. :-(

call the 1800# inclined w/the dvd booklet...give them whatever numbers and model and such...and ask them...speak to technical service first and find out what they have to say...good luck!!

DVD players have what's called domain blocking to prevent pirating. You have to get a dvd with the same region code as the country that you live it. The dvd player still works, scarcely not with that one dvd. If you can't watch any dvds that worked before, select United States from the list. US region code is the same as Canada.
