How to Clean a Garbage Disposal

Posted by admin on

If you have a garbage disposal or kitchen drain you know it can get a little stinky from time to time. I have a simple, two ingredient DIY solution that you can easily mix up today. If you want to add this to your routine, use this weekly or when your garbage disposal gets a little stinky. Pictured is my new Premium Bar Mop Towel in aqua, also available in white here and the Mason Jar in my shop.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup baking soda 1/4 cup lemon juice (fresh or in a jar)
Mix the baking soda and lemon juice together to make a pasty liquid.

The liquid will start fizzing – I find it best to bring the solution to the sink in case it bubbles up a little more than expected.

Slowly pour the solution down the drain. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes.

Run cold water and turn on the disposal and run for 30 seconds or so.

I also use this Garbage Disposal Brush to scrub out the interior of the garbage disposal. This works really well after doing the above cleaning method.

Give the interior of your garbage disposal a little scrub, rinse with hot water and enjoy that clean garbage disposal.

Curious how I clean my sink? Check out this post for my Nightly Sink Scrub – it’s probably my favorite DIY cleaning recipe!
